Re:Pointers For Parents - 2006/03/29 20:35 Alhumdulilah I gave this khutbah in four different Masajid (3 khutbas and one speech)- Teaneck - darul Islah, Valley Stream - masjid Hamza, Jamaica, NY - Markaz.. Staten Island (forgot the name of the masjid)

alhumdulilah usually about 10 people on average would approach me to give feedback. This one guy in Teaneck was the funniest.... he came up to me and said... "I come to the masjid to get my connection with Allah, but when you were speaking I started listening to what you were saying and I lost my connection with Allah". So this other uncle who liked the khutbah jumped on his back and started asking him point blank if Islam is only "religious". I just stepped away while smiling.... what a weirdo!

Other than that one parent was like your khutbah makes all parents out to be bad parents, there are some good parents out there you know.

Of the positive comments..... they mostly came from African Americans, and school teachers (people who realize whats really up). A couple of people gave me their e-mail address because they wanted a soft copy of the speech, some wanted references.. especially about the hadith which says if the child sins to due not being married, the father is responsible. I guess that scared some people.

One uncle in Teaneck was really cool, he simply blamed foreign (overseas) culture for all of our problems and misunderstandings. He told me that he HATES parents who discriminate against potential spouses due to ethnicity.

One brother in Valley Stream told me that he wanted me to go to every single masjid in NY and give this khutbah. Those were some very encouraging words mashallah.

I have to say the dos and donts were first written up in the late 90s and were published as a brochure by Young Muslims. Two other brothers and myself worked on the wording... Then I found the text from the old brochure and just expanded on it to make it longer (to suit a khutbah) .
