A journalist once asked Imam Hasan Al Banna, one of the Islamic Revivalists of the previous century: “Tell me who are you?” The Imam responded: “I am a tourist who is seeking the truth, and a human who is searching for the meaning of his humanity amongst people, and a citizen who wants dignity, freedom, stability, and a good life for his nation, in the shade of the Upright Islam. I am a selfless person who, as he found the secret for his existence, called out: ‘My prayers, my sacrifice, my living and my dieing are all devoted to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. He has no partner. This is what I have been commanded, and I am the first of Muslims’. This is who I am, who are you?”
My name is Azeem Khan. I am from Brooklyn, New York City. I have chosen to name this blog "Fading Impression" because I always tell my close friends that I want to make my mark on this world. Yet I know that this world will only continue to exist in its present form for a limited amount of time. The essence of worldly life is that it is temporal. Yet I still want to leave my impression on it, even though I know it will eventually fade. The reason behind why I am so keen on making my mark is because I will be held accountable for the time, energy, and resources which were allotted to me by Allah (God) in order to fully utilize my potential in his way.
My entries will range from a wide variety of topics (as you can tell from my categories list). I will try not to post back to back entries from the same category to keep an interesting mix for my visitors. The most formal entries will be the khutbahs (sermons), while the most free form entries will be in the nostalgia section. My reviews will be somewhere in the middle depending on what I am reviewing and whether or not I hope to have my review published. I have some special projects in mind. I'll do one special project at a time i.e. Pakistan Journal. My next special project will probably be a compilation of experiences I have gained through my tenure as a Muslim Youth Activist over the last 10 years. Sadly that chapter of my life is quickly coming to an end. I want to preserve as much of those memories as possible so others can benefit and draw lessons from it. Especially those people who are engaging in the same effort that I was a part of.
Please feel free to comment and debate with me on my entries. I would definitely want to build a community around the site. I love to get feedback and criticism so when you read an entry please comment on it.
